Decrease amount
Percentage decrease

A percentage decrease calculator measures how much a value has fallen, expressed as a percentage of where it started. It's great for discounts, price drops and weight loss.

The maths

Decrease % = (original − new) ÷ original × 100

The decrease amount is the original minus the new value. Dividing by the original and multiplying by 100 turns it into a percentage.

Examples

  • From 100 to 80 = 20 decrease = 20% decrease
  • From 200 to 150 = 50 decrease = 25% decrease
  • A sale dropping $60 to $45 is a 25% decrease

Frequently asked questions

What if the new value is higher?

The result goes negative, meaning it's actually an increase. Use the percentage increase calculator for a cleaner view in that case.

Is this the same as a discount?

Yes. A 20% discount is a 20% decrease from the original price. The discount calculator also works out the final price for you.

Just for the giggles, much love.
