The maths

Decrease % = (original − new) ÷ original × 100

The decrease amount is the original minus the new value. Dividing by the original and multiplying by 100 turns it into a percentage.

Examples

  • From 100 to 80 = 20 decrease = 20% decrease
  • From 200 to 150 = 50 decrease = 25% decrease
  • A sale dropping $60 to $45 is a 25% decrease

What if the new value is higher?
