Increase amount
Percentage increase

A percentage increase calculator measures how much a value has grown, expressed as a percentage of where it started. It's handy for price rises, population growth and score improvements.

The maths

Increase % = (new − original) ÷ original × 100

The increase amount is simply the new value minus the original. Dividing by the original and multiplying by 100 turns it into a percentage.

Examples

  • From 80 to 100 = 20 increase = 25% increase
  • From 50 to 75 = 25 increase = 50% increase
  • If the new value is lower, the result is negative — use the percentage decrease calculator instead

Frequently asked questions

What if the original is zero?

A percentage increase from zero is undefined (division by zero), so the result shows as a dash. Any increase from zero is an infinite percentage gain.

How is this different from percentage change?

Percentage change is the same formula but keeps its sign, so it covers both increases and decreases. This calculator focuses on the increase case for clarity.

Just for the giggles, much love.
