Grade Calculator

Calculate your overall grade from weighted assignments and an exam. Add each assignment with its weight, plus your exam score, to see your overall percentage, letter grade and the points needed for the next grade.

Add a row for each assignment with its score (as a percentage) and its weight, then enter your exam score and the exam's weight. The calculator combines them into a weighted overall percentage, a letter grade and the points you need for the next grade up.

A grade calculator combines your assignments and exam into a single weighted overall grade, turns it into a letter, and tells you how close you are to the next boundary — handy for tracking where you stand in a course.

The maths

Overall % = (sum of score × weight for each item) ÷ (sum of weights)

Letter bands used here: A ≥ 90, B ≥ 80, C ≥ 70, D ≥ 60, F < 60. 'Points to next grade' is how many more percentage points you need overall to reach the next boundary.

Examples

  • Two assignments at 85% (weight 20 each) + exam 90% (weight 40) = 87.5%
  • 87.5% is a B; you'd need 2.5 more points for an A
  • Heavier-weighted items move the average more

Frequently asked questions

Do the weights need to add to 100?

No. The calculator divides by the total weight you enter, so the result is correct even if weights sum to something else. Just make sure each weight reflects the item's relative importance.

Are these letter bands universal?

No. Grading scales vary by school and country. The bands here are a common US default — always confirm your institution's cut-offs.

Just for the giggles, much love.
