Drywall Calculator

Estimate how many drywall or plasterboard sheets you need from the wall size and the sheet dimensions, including a waste allowance so you order enough.

Enter the wall height and length in metres and the sheet width and height you'll buy. The calculator finds the wall area, divides it by the area of one sheet, and adds a 10% waste allowance for cuts and off-cuts.

Recommended (incl. waste)

A drywall calculator works out how many plasterboard sheets a wall needs from the wall area and the sheet size, then adds a 10% waste allowance for cuts, doors and windows.

The maths

  • Wall area = height × length
  • Sheet area = sheet width × sheet height
  • Sheets = wall area ÷ sheet area, rounded up
  • Recommended = sheets × 1.1 (10% waste)

Examples

  • 2.4 m × 8 m wall with 1.2 × 2.4 m sheets = 19.2 m²
  • That needs 7 sheets of 2.88 m²
  • Order 8 with the 10% waste allowance

Frequently asked questions

Should I subtract doors and windows?

You can, but the 10% waste allowance usually absorbs them. For many large openings, subtract their area from the wall area first for a tighter estimate.

Does this cover ceilings?

Yes — just treat the ceiling as a wall by entering its dimensions. Run it separately for each surface and add the sheet counts.

Just for the giggles, much love.
