Cycling Speed Calculator

Calculate your cycling speed and pace from distance and time. Enter distance and time to get average speed and your pace per kilometre and per mile.

Choose your unit system, then enter the distance in km (metric) or miles (imperial) and the time taken as hours and minutes. The calculator returns your average speed and your pace per kilometre and per mile.

Pace per mile

A cycling speed calculator turns your distance and time into an average speed plus your pace per kilometre and per mile — useful for tracking rides and comparing efforts across routes.

The maths

  • Speed = distance ÷ time (hours)
  • Pace = time (minutes) ÷ distance, per km or per mile

Speed is distance per unit time; pace is time per unit distance — two views of the same ride.

Examples

  • 40 km in 1h15 = 32 km/h average
  • Pace = 1.88 min/km
  • Longer distance in the same time raises the speed

Frequently asked questions

Why show pace and speed?

Cyclists often think in speed (km/h), while runners think in pace (min/km). Showing both makes it easy to compare with other sports and plan target times.

Does wind or gradient matter?

Not here — this is the raw average over your whole ride. Headwinds and hills lower your speed for the same effort.

Just for the giggles, much love.
