A decimal to fraction calculator converts a decimal into its fraction form by using the number of decimal places to set the denominator, then simplifying the result to its lowest terms.

The maths

  • Count the digits after the decimal point (d)
  • Denominator = 10d, numerator = decimal × denominator
  • Divide both by their greatest common divisor to simplify

For example, 0.75 has 2 decimal places → 75/100 → divide by 25 → 3/4.

Examples

  • 0.75 → 75/100 → 3/4
  • 0.5 → 5/10 → 1/2
  • 1.25 → 125/100 → 5/4

Frequently asked questions

What about recurring decimals?

This calculator uses the exact digits you enter, so 0.333 becomes 333/1000 rather than the true 1/3. For known repeating decimals, enter more precision for a closer approximation.

Can it handle numbers bigger than 1?

Yes. 1.25 becomes 125/100, simplified to 5/4 (an improper fraction). It's not converted to a mixed number, but the value is exact.

Just for the giggles, much love.
