Calculate your waist-to-hip ratio to assess body shape and health risk. Enter your sex and waist and hip measurements to see the ratio, health risk category and body shape.
Enter your sex and your waist and hip measurements in centimetres. The calculator finds the waist-to-hip ratio, classifies your health risk (using sex-specific thresholds from the WHO) and notes whether your shape is apple or pear.

A waist-to-hip ratio calculator compares your waist to your hip measurement to gauge body-fat distribution. A higher ratio (“apple” shape) is linked to greater health risk than carrying weight on the hips (“pear” shape).
Ratio = waist ÷ hip
WHO risk thresholds: men < 0.90 low, 0.90–0.99 moderate, ≥ 1.0 high; women < 0.80 low, 0.80–0.85 moderate, ≥ 0.86 high.
Waist: midway between the lowest rib and the top of the hipbone, relaxed. Hip: the widest point around the buttocks. Measure with a tape, not over bulky clothing.
Where you carry fat matters. Abdominal (visceral) fat around the waist is more strongly linked to heart disease and diabetes than fat stored on the hips.
